Acupuncture With an accredited educational institute you can receive alternative healing instruction and learn to relieve pain and tension in the body by inserting small medical needles into specific points on the body. There are a variety of acupuncture schools that teach students the science and philosophy of acupuncture, anatomy, and herbal medicine, as well as several that provide an education in TCM.

Some schools and colleges may offer a Master in Acupuncture, Master of Oriental Medicine, or Master of Science in Acupuncture. Other educational programs offer diplomas, or bachelors, masters and doctoral degrees. Students can choose to specialize in Oriental medicine, acupuncture training, or holistic health.

The requirements for licensing vary by state, and as many offer licenses to acupuncturists, some states do not. Some states require the completion of an ACAOM-accredited training program and an examination given by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine.

Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine

With an accredited education in acupuncture and oriental medicine students can learn to treat illness and pain by inserting needles into particular locations on the body, and other forms of healing. There are a variety of training methods including "medical" acupuncture, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), Korean acupuncture, and Western acupuncture. Depending on the level of degree you can study intro to physical examinations, acupuncture treatment principles, point location and technique, herbal medicine, clinical practice, and much more. As a professional in acupuncture and oriental medicine you can work in private practices, alternative medicine centers, health facilities, cruise ships, and rehabilitation centers to name a few.

Five Element Acupuncture

There are several educational programs that offer training with a holistic approach. Five Element acupuncture draws on the laws of nature for diagnosing and treating the underlying cause of a disease or ailment instead of the symptoms. Coursework may consist of learning the five element of wood, fire, earth, metal, and water, physiology, anatomy, Chinese medicine, meridians and points, acupuncture therapeutics, patterns of disease, Chinese Herbology, Qi Gong, practice management, ethics, and more. With an accredited education in five element acupuncture you can find work as an acupuncturist in hotels, spas, medical facilities, or even start your own business.
