As a professional court reporter or scoping technologist you will be responsible for transcribing conversations, legal proceedings, and meetings, editing and proofreading, and other related tasks. There are several levels of degrees that can be obtained from an accredited school or college allowing you to find employment with the state government, a private court reporting service, local government, or your own business.
Accredited vocational schools offer courses in subjects like court reporting procedures, communications, human relations, foundations of law, vocabulary and usage, and other law related lessons. With a degree or certificate in court reporting you can prepare for a professional career as a paralegal, medical transcriber, stenocaptioner, or other law related reporting position.

Court Reporting
Court reporters construct transcripts of meetings, legal proceedings, and other spoken words for reference. Some professionals are trained to use stenographic, electronic, or voice writing to document words into written transcript. With an accredited educational program you can learn legal terminology, spelling, English, CART reporting,
communications, keyboarding, and human relations to become a Certified Verbatim Reporter (CVR), Real-Time Verbatim Reporter (RVR), and more. The National Court Reporters Association is an organization that holds workshops, conventions, and forums to provide information and certification to students, teachers, and professional court reporters.
Scoping Technology
Scoping technology is the act of proofreading and translating written work and notes transcribed by a court reporter. Law firms, court systems, government agencies,
paralegal offices, and media outlets hire scoping professionals for a variety of reasons. With an accredited education in scoping technology you will learn communication, grammar, spelling, terminology, and other relevant classes in order to edit and finalize the work of a court reporter. With a degree or certificate students will be able to work from a stenographer's office, their home, or law firm looking up medical, legal, and technical terms.
